Just a random thought…
It seems like every minority group has been persecuted against. Blacks, native Americans, Jewish, homosexuals, Irish. But you never see anybody persecuting white, Anglo saxons.
Why is that?

ACADEMY AWARDS- MY THOUGHTS
Okay… so the Oscars have come and gone, but I would just like to take this moment to just vent a little bit about the major categories.
Best Picture- The King’s Speech. SOOOO well deserved. this movie is incredibly touching and surprisingly emotional. I would have been mad if the Social Network won, because although it is a great film, it didn’t move me. It didn’t make me cry. It just didn’t get an emotion out of me at all, except for, “Wow, Mark Zuckerburg, you’re an ass.” The King’s Speech, however, made me cry. I was rooting for the main character from the very beginning. And in my opinion, that is what makes an best-picture film.
Best Actor- Colin Firth in The King’s Speech. I have loved Colin Firth ever since i saw the FIRST Bridget Jone’s Diary. He is so sexy, so eloquent, so BRITISH. And after watching The King’s Speech and A Single Man (for which he was previously nominated for best actor, losing to Jeff Bridges last year) And if anybody DESERVED an Oscar this year, it was him. He was so moving as King George in The King’s Speech. He nailed it. And I knew that he would win since I first watched this movie, which was in November. I love being right. :)
Best Actress- Natalie Portman in Black Swan. Okay, yes, Natalie Portman did a great job playing a crazy person. I know that. But I would be lying if I said I was rooting for her to win. I was in Annette Benning’s corner the whole way. Now I haven’t actually seen The Kids Are All Right, but I have seen much of Benning’s earlier films, and I’m surprised she hasn’t won an oscar yet. Portman is young!! I know she can win an Oscar later on, but how many more chances will Benning have? Will she always play the bridesmaid and never the bride?? :(
Best Supporting Actor- Christian Bale in The Fighter. YES. Again, after watching The Fighter, I remember telling my sister, “you might as well just give him the Academy Award.” AND I WAS RIGHT. He completely embodied Dick Ecklund. he nailed everything from his speech (Bale is British, Ecklund is from Boston), to his mannerisms, to his attitude. I mean, i walked away totally believing that it was ACTUALLY Ecklund and not Christian Bale. Bravo.
Best Director: Tom Hooper for The King’s Speech. I remember telling my mom before watching the Academy Awards on Sunday that I wanted an upset in a major category. And boy did I get it. David Fincher, who directed The Social Network, was supposed to have this award on lock. Everybody thought Hooper was “too young” and “inexperienced” and they’re right. He is after all, 38 years young, an this was his first film. But he helmed one of the best films I have ever seen. And he pulled off one of the biggest upsets in Oscar History. Props to him!
Those are really the only categories I care about, besides costume design. I knew Colleen Atwood had that in the bag for Alice in Wonderland.

YUCKKK. this is my least favorite look of the night. Melissa Leo…you are a paid actress. You can afford more than just a fancy, embellished dolly to wear to the ACADEMY AWARDS. it also makes her look wider than she really is.
Melissa Leo’s Marc Bouwer dress did nothing for her in my opinion. The over the top lace aged her, the high collar and wide shoulders made her look broad and length stumped her. I was a fan of the slight leg and the low neckline, but felt it would have looked better on someone younger and taller. The shoes were not the right choice at all, they matched the outfit too much and the straps and open toe took away from huge detail of the dress.

eek…too much for someone who is just presenting. And she needs to put the girls away. This is the Academy Awards. Time to class it up, J-Hud. And what’s up with her hair? The color is pretty though.

yikes Marisa Tomei… definitely not the most flattering dress. those two shades of purple don’t compliment each other well at all. and is it just me or does she look pregnant??? This dress could’ve worked if it was mermaid style and just in basic black… as in everything was black.

I am not impressed with Reese Witherspoon’s look. BORINGGG. and the dress looks like a tuxedo or something. I miss her in Nina Ricci dresses…this Armani Prive is so blah.
I will give her that her hair looks cute.
